Webinar Series on Carbon Accounting for Compost and Digestate

The Research Hub, in partnership with AECOM, are excited to announce a two-part webinar series on Carbon Accounting for Compost and Digestate Producers, coming this November! The webinars are free for Compost Certification Scheme (CCS) and Biofertiliser Certification Scheme (BCS) participants. Webinar 1: An overview of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol

Date: 16th November, 10:00 – 11:30 AM
Location: Online via Teams

This webinar will provide an overview of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP) and the benefits of engaging with carbon accounting principles for CCS and BCS Participants. The aim is to give producers and operators an understanding of the GHGP Standards and Guidance documents, and their relevance to the sector. This session will cover:

  • Why the Compost and Digestate sector should engage in carbon accounting
  • Key principles of carbon accounting
  • Applications of the GHGP's Corporate and Product Standards
  • An introduction to the upcoming guidance on the Land Sector and Removals due to be published next year
     

Webinar 2: Product carbon footprinting

Date: 23rd November, 10:00 – 11:30 AM
Location: Online via Teams

This webinar will provide a walk-through of REAL’s research project titled ‘How benefits of applying compost and digestate to soils can be accounted for under the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHGP).’ This session will cover:

  • How producers and operators can use the GHGP to quantify the carbon impact of their products
  • A worked example assessing the carbon impact of producing and applying compost and digestates to soil
  • Practical guidance for producers and operators to incorporate carbon accounting into their own operations
     

There will be an opportunity for Q & A after both sessions. We encourage all interested participants to join both webinars. Lots to learn and share.
